Manchester United are edging closer to securing the futures of two key first-team figures at Old Trafford.
According to David Ornstein, fresh contract agreements for Kobbie Man United duo Mainoo and Harry Maguire are now at an advanced stage.
Talks between the club and both players have accelerated in recent weeks.
Final details are still being ironed out, but there is growing confidence that these deals will be completed soon.
Mainoo is currently under contract until June 2027 with an option for a further year.
He is expected to receive a long-term extension that will keep him at Man United until 2031.
The proposed agreement also includes a significant salary increase, reflecting his growing importance within the squad.
The 20-year-old’s situation has shifted dramatically over the course of the season.
Having struggled for minutes and even considered a loan move during Ruben Amorim’s spell in charge, Mainoo has re-established himself under interim boss Michael Carrick.
His resurgence has seen him earn a recall to the England squad, capping an impressive turnaround in fortunes.
Meanwhile, Maguire is also closing in on a new agreement despite being set to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
Man United are finalising a one-year extension, with the option to extend by an additional 12 months, ensuring continuity in defence.
Both players have been ever-present since Carrick’s appointment, starting all nine matches under the former Man Utd midfielder.
Their importance has coincided with a marked upturn in results, with Man United climbing to third in the Premier League ahead of Friday night’s clash with Bournemouth.
With the future of Mainoo locked in, the Red Devils can focus on bringing the right pieces to bolster the engine room ahead of next season.
Following the decision to hold on to Maguire for another year at least, the club might not swoop for a central defender this summer.
