Important returns for Amorim

Manchester United have confirmed a double selection boost ahead of their Premier League meeting with Sunderland at Old Trafford. Both Amad and Casemiro are available for Ruben Amorim after missing last weekend’s defeat to Brentford.

Amad was absent due to a family bereavement, with his manager offering words of support rather than footballing focus. Amorim said: “Amad is not here, someone in his family passed away so we are giving all the support to Amad. We understood it was important to him to have his time and to return home. That is real life for Amad: we are here for him. It’s a tough moment and in these kind of moments it is not important the next game. We can win without Amad and we will try to win for Amad.”

The Ivorian has since returned to training, with United confirming he is preparing to feature against Sunderland, the club he represented earlier in his career.

Casemiro back from suspension

Casemiro also missed the Brentford game, serving a one-match suspension after being dismissed in the 2-1 victory against Chelsea. His availability provides Amorim with midfield stability and leadership, something sorely lacking in the loss at the Gtech Community Stadium.

United’s statement read: “As well as Amad, United will have Casemiro available for selection again, after he missed the Brentford clash through a one-game suspension, on the back of his red card during the 2-1 win over Chelsea.”
