Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia made his first appearance in 17 months in yesterday’s EFL Trophy group stage game against Huddersfield Town.

The Dutchman recently returned to full training sessions after recovering from a long-term knee issue.

He got his first minutes of the campaign playing for the Under 21s against Huddersfield last night.

Malacia played the opening 45 minutes against the Terriers, who came on top with a 4-1 win at home.

The former Feyenoord man had a solid outing in the opening half when the scores were level.

The left-back completed 94 percent of his passes and lost possession on only three occasions.

He also impressed defensively with two clearances, one interception and one tackle won.

Malacia will have another chance to step up his fitness against Altrincham next week.

United’s Under 21s face the National League side in the newly-revived National League Cup.

Malacia could get another 45 minutes under his belt before the international break concludes.

There is a good chance that he could make Ruben Amorim’s first matchday squad later this month.

United visit Ipswich Town in the Premier League on November 24.

Amorim has already arrived in Manchester after parting ways with Sporting CP. The Portuguese is expected to take charge of training once his working visa is approved.

It is anticipated that he will have his first press conference after his maiden training session.

Malacia is likely to compete for the left wing-back role in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
