Manchester United will turn their full attention to Kobbie Mainoo’s contract situation as soon as the transfer window closes.
Indeed, the Red Devils are ready to have the midfield starlet’s terms accurately reflect his status at the club, with Fabrizio Romano revealing before Sunday’s clash with Arsenal that Mainoo is now once again viewed as ‘untouchable’.
It’s safe to say that it’ll be music to United fans’ ears, as they were desperate for him to stay put at Old Trafford this month following endless speculation suggesting he’d be on the move.

In the first half of the campaign under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo did not make a single Premier League start and featured for a measly 212 minutes across 11 substitute appearances.
Although he was said to be reluctant to leave his boyhood club, the 21-year-old, who was valued in the region of £80 million last year, was considering alternative options in both the closing stages of the summer window, when he had been an unused option for the opening two matches of the campaign, and in the build-up to January.
When Amorim was relieved of his duties just six days into the month, Mainoo’s desire to leave diminished with the hope he would play a prominent role under whoever took charge – and that he has.
In last week’s emphatic Manchester derby victory and Sunday’s triumphant win away to Arsenal, Mainoo not only played the full 180 minutes under Michael Carrick, but he also covered the most distance of any player on the pitch across both matches.

As things stand, his contract will expire in 2027, though United are keen to have him tied down to an improved deal.
“As soon as the market closes, Man United will start pushing for a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo. Mainoo’s contract doesn’t expire anytime soon, but United want to show full trust in him,” said Romano on YouTube last night.
“United want to offer Mainoo a new contract – a longer deal and with a better salary. The salary is the real topic; the urgency of the length isn’t really that crazy.
“Mainoo never wanted to leave United permanently. Napoli almost had the deal done on loan for Kobbie Mainoo, but the deal was a straight loan with no buy option, and Mainoo was always going to return to United.”
