Manchester United have been dealt a lethal blow in their pursuit of RB Leipzig forward Giovanna Hoffmann.
United have had a busy summer, bringing in two players as they look to build on the success of the 2024/25 Women’s Super League campaign.
Marc Skinner’s side finished in third position and booked their spot in the Champions League.
So far this window, United have added two new players to the ranks – Julia Zigiotti Olme and Fridolina Rolfo from Bayern Munich and Barcelona respectively.
Both seasoned professionals, they were signed to bring pedigree and valuable experience to the squad.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were in to sign Hoffmann, who seemed poised to join the club as their third summer signing.
It was stated that United were looking to strike a favourable deal for Hoffmann, who has one year left on her contract with Leipzig.
However, it seems that negotiations have hit a stumbling block and unless something drastic happens, Hoffmann will not be joining United this summer.
BBC journalist Emma Sanders wrote on X, “UPDATE: I’m told the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement on the fee.”
“Man Utd reps stayed behind from pre-season in an attempt to make it work. Talks have stalled as a result.”
“Deal looks unlikely unless there’s a u-turn by either club before deadline. A blow for Manchester United.”
The reason behind the collapse of talks between United and Leipzig remains unclear, though it’s likely due to disagreements over the financial package, with Leipzig seemingly pushing for a higher fee.
United have until 23:00 BST on September 4 to complete any signings, with the transfer window closing then. The new WSL season begins the following day.
