Caginess wins at Old Trafford

Scorers: Fernandes (PEN) 70'; Caicedo 74'

Manchester United and Chelsea had to settle for a point after a closely contested 1-1 draw.

A cagey first half saw Noni Madueke go closest to an opener when he headed Cole Palmer's corner just past André Onana's lefthand post.

The Red Devils' response saw Marcus Rashford force Robert Sánchez into a save at the byline before Bruno Fernandes fired the follow-up wide.

An improved second half at Old Trafford saw the hosts handed a lifeline when Sánchez conceded a penalty after taking out Rasmus Højlund.

Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot before Moisés Caicedo levelled inside four minutes for the Londoners with a low drilled volley.

Garnacho threatened to deliver a dramatic winner late on as the ball sat up for him inside the penalty area but his strike flew over the bar.

Chelsea leapfrog Arsenal into fourth place while United move up a spot into 13th after their worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Spurs rally to thrash Villa

Scorers: Johnson 49', Solanke 75', 79'; Maddison 90+6'; Rogers 32'

Tottenham produced a rousing comeback to down Champions League rivals Aston Villa in a 4-1 win.

The visitors broke the deadlock shortly after the half-hour mark when Morgan Rogers converted a Lucas Digne corner unchallenged.

Ange Postecoglou's side returned from the interval with renewed purpose and equalised through Brennan Johnson meeting Heung-min Son's cross.

They took the lead when Dominic Solanke latched onto Dejan Kulusevski's clever through pass before scooping the ball over Emiliano Martínez.

Spurs' no.19 doubled his tally just four minutes on by ghosting into the box to stroke home Richarlison's cross unmarked.

James Maddison rounded off a perfect afternoon midway through 10 minutes' added time with a sublime curling free kick.

The Lilywhites are now up to seventh in the Premier League table, just two points off their beaten opponents in fifth.
