Manchester United believe that they can sign Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson ahead of rivals Manchester City.
City have been the frontrunners in the race to acquire the England midfielder. However, according to The Guardian, United are still confident that they can lure the 23-year-old to Old Trafford. It is believed that Forest will hold out for a fee in excess of £100 million.
The Reds have been on the verge of completing one recruitment in central midfield. Although still expected to go through, their deal for Atalanta’s Ederson has been stalled. This is due to the Brazilian being called up late to Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad.
Elsewhere, German reports say that Bayern Munich are considering a move for Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli. It is understood that the winger has long had admirers in Bavaria.
The German champions believe they could land the 24-year-old for around £40 million. The attacker made just 11 league starts last season. It is, by some distance, the fewest he has made in the past five campaigns. Martinelli is in danger of falling further down the pecking order too, with the Gunners continuing to target forwards this summer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are close to making their first signing of the summer official. The Daily Telegraph report that 20-year-old French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen will soon be heading to Tyneside. The Magpies had, alongside Chelsea, been close to completing a deal for AIK youngster Zadok Yohanna. It was ultimately Brighton that landed the 18-year-old.
