Manchester City’s transfer plans could spark a domino effect that would eventually cost Manchester United their chance to sign Patrick Dorgu.
The Red Devils have been seeking a new left-back for quite some time now. But after falling short in their attempts to sign the likes of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes, they have now turned their attention to the Lecce youngster, identifying him as their priority target.
The Premier League giants have reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms with the player’s entourage. However, they have yet to convince the stubborn Serie A minnows who insist on collecting €40 million euros.
But while United have been making slow but steady progress on that front, their crosstown rivals are also fishing for a new left-back in the Italian peninsula.

The English champions have been on Andrea Cambiaso’s trail for weeks, and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, they are now preparing to launch a late-January onslaught to secure the signing of the 24-year-old Juventus star.
While the Bianconeri were previously holding out for €80 million, they are now willing to accept an offer in the region of €60 million, reveals the famous Italian newspaper.
But what concerns Man Utd about the whole operation is what the source reveals about Dorgu. The pink newspaper believes Juventus will be looking to reinvest part of the transfer fee they’d collect from Cambiaso on a direct replacement. Thus, they have been working in the shadows to secure an agreement in principle with Lecce and Dorgu who would be the ideal heir for the departing Italy international.
So while this might be a far-fetched theory for now, the Red Devils would be wise to accelerate their negotiations with Lecce and bring in Dorgu as soon as possible to avoid any unpleasant late twists.
