The January transfer window will give Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim his first real chance to shape the squad since arriving midseason. However, the most significant changes are likely to come next summer, with Amorim reportedly targeting another addition from Paris Saint-Germain.

Last summer, United brought in Manuel Ugarte from PSG, and the midfielder has thrived under Amorim’s guidance, rekindling the partnership they first built at Sporting Lisbon. Now, the Portuguese manager is said to be eyeing another familiar face from his Sporting days—Nuno Mendes.

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United remains keen on Mendes, with the 22-year-old left-back reportedly intrigued by the idea of reuniting with Amorim after discussions with his representatives.

If Mendes cannot secure a contract extension at PSG, the French champions may entertain offers of around €70 million in the summer transfer window.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported on Friday that Mendes has no immediate plans to sign a new contract with PSG. The Portugal international is exploring his options and taking time to carefully consider his future.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation and staying informed on any developments.

Pete Hall of the iPaper reported this week that Mendes is keen to become Amorim’s first major signing at Old Trafford after contract talks with his current club in Paris stalled.

Manchester United shares the same enthusiasm but faces financial challenges that could complicate negotiations. With limited funds available in January and potentially next summer, the Red Devils’ chances of securing the Portuguese wing-back may depend on offloading underperforming players.

The Premier League club are open to offers for much of the current squad, including loans where salaries could be partially covered, to create space for new arrivals.
