In a recent post on X, RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins mentioned that Manchester City are keeping a keen eye on Barcelona defender Jules Kounde this summer. It is understood that the Mancunian giants have made enquiries to land the France international this off-season.
Kounde enjoyed a good run of form at the Catalan club in the previous campaign when he put in a string of impressive performances on the right side of their defence. The French right-back made 53 appearances for Barca last season, netting four goals and picking up eight assists in multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old was a solid presence when defending inside his half as he made 63 tackles, 35 blocks and 20 interceptions in La Liga. He was even careful when distributing possession from the right flank based on his pass success rate of 86.7% in the Spanish first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Nou Camp will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, Man City would have to make a big offer if they want to get a cut-price deal done for him in this transfer period.

Kounde is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and can even play his way out from the back.
The French talent can create some inviting chances for his teammates from the right flank. He is primarily a right-back but can also serve as a central defender if told to do so by his manager.
Kounde would add more quality to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s defence. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium next season.
At 26, Kounde is about to enter his prime which makes him a great fit for the Mancunian club’s needs this summer. However, he might need some time to adjust to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if Man City manage to bring him on board before the end of this transfer period.
