In the last few years, the FC Barcelona academy has been essential for the club in a difficult time when the Blaugranes have been unable to make their desired moves in the market.

With their hands bound due to FFP constraints, the Catalans relied a lot on their academy to strengthen the weak areas in their team, and this policy has paid high dividends for Barcelona, as they are currently one of the most in-form teams in Europe.

This policy has also allowed several home-grown players to shine, with Lamine Yamal’s case being the most prominent. But another youngster who has been playing at a very high level with Barcelona since the last season is the center-back Pau Cubarsi.

The defender has impressed with his defensive skills and maturity at the age of only 17 years and is currently one of the highest-rated youngsters in Spain and Europe.

As a result, other clubs are also keen to have him in their teams, and according to Fichajes, this is particularly the case for Manchester City, who are interested in incorporating the Barcelona defender into their team.

For this purpose, the report mentions that the Citizens have already been in contact with the Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, and are willing to offer a very high amount of money for him. The figure reported for this operation lies around €70 million.

The Manchester City head coach, Pep Guardiola, sees Cubarsi as a perfect fit for his team, especially because of his passing skills to get the ball out of the defensive line.

However, despite this interest, it is difficult to see Cubarsi leaving Barcelona at this point in his career. Hansi Flick has him as a regular starter this season, especially in the absence of more experienced players like Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.

Even when these players return, Barcelona would likely be reluctant to part ways with such a promising talent. Furthermore, Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City is also not too certain, since the change in the sporting management of the Premier League side.
