Officials at Manchester City reportedly have their sights set on Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, according to new information from Germany.
The 25-year-old’s name will be a familiar one to supporters at the Etihad Stadium, having spent more than a decade developing within the club’s academy system and seemingly remaining a player of interest beyond the club.
A tall, technically refined midfielder standing at 6’3”, Felix Nmecha was once regarded as one of the brightest prospects of his generation in sky blue, and while senior opportunities proved scarce during early years in Manchester, his impact at youth level was significant.
The brother of Leeds United striker Lukas played a central role in the club’s 2020/21 Premier League 2 triumph, registering 10 goals in 20 appearances from an advanced role in central midfield.
Felix Nmecha’s limited first-team exposure still included a memorable Champions League outing, where he assisted in a 3–0 win over Olympiacos, before departing for VfL Wolfsburg in search of regular football and onwards to Borussia Dortmund in 2023.
Now, according to the information of Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have had Nmecha ‘on their radar for some time’ and have already contacted the player’s representatives.
Given the player’s history at the Etihad Stadium and coming through City’s academy ranks, the connection with the player is strong, and Nmecha himself is said to be open to a move to the Premier League – while a longer list of clubs holds an interest aside from the Sky Blues.
Unsurprisingly, Borussia Dortmund plan to extend Nmecha’s contract, and the German club’s management – led by sporting director Sebastian Kehl – have reportedly held initial talks with the player’s new representatives to discuss the interests of both sides.
Sky report that Nmecha currently earns around €5 million annually in Dortmund, with his current employers prepared to make adjustments to his salary package in order to extend his contract, which runs until the summer of 2028.
Since leaving England, Nmecha has carved out a formidable reputation in Germany, with performances at Wolfsburg earning a reported €30 million switch to Dortmund, since surpassing 100 appearances for the club.
In the ongoing 2025/26 campaign, Nmecha has delivered consistent output in the Bundesliga with two goals and three assists across 24 Bundesliga matches, while maintaining an impressive 86.1 per cent pass completion rate.
His European pedigree has also strengthened, finding the net three times in 10 Champions League matches this term. On the international stage, the former England youth international committed to Germany at senior level and has become a regular under Julian Nagelsmann, earning six caps and scoring in a World Cup qualifier against Armenia.
With his aerial dominance – winning 60 per cent of duels this season – and growing tactical maturity, Felix Nmecha profiles as a powerful, well-rounded midfielder entering his prime years and perhaps one well-suited to the increasing physicality of the Premier League.
