Manchester City made a head start on their squad rebuild during the January transfer window. Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, Nico and Juma Bah were all signed by the club. Each player figures to be an important player for the future for Pep Guardiola’s side. But the next stage of Manchester City’s rebuild will continue this summer. Now, a new update from Sam Lee of the Athletic, while speaking on the Athletic FC Podcast, indicates that it may be a busy summer of incomings for Manchester City this summer.
Sam Lee was asked about how many players he expected to be signed by Manchester City this summer. He expected four to five players to arrive, with Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso looming as a potential summer signing. Speaking on the Athletic FC Podcast Lee said: “Four or five signings is the plan. It’s looking like left-back seems to be one. The way they were looking at Andrea Cambiaso in January, that’s one that could easily be revived.”
This summer was always looming as a busy one for Manchester City. Several key areas of Pep Guardiola’s squad need to be refreshed. The need to sign a left-back is obvious. Potentially, a new goalkeeper could arrive, as well as players who offer more creativity in midfield. Those are obvious needs in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
But who will arrive to fill the obvious holes in the City squad is a story to monitor. It seems that Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is looming as a priority target for Manchester City. Fabrizio Romano has reported that City are set to advance their move for the England international in the coming weeks. So who the other players could be to strengthen City’s squad is a story to watch for throughout the summer. Whether or not City can sign any players ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup is also another variable in the equation.
A busy summer looms for Manchester City. If they could sign four or five players this summer their squad will have a completely different look to it come the start of next season. After a tough season for City that is something to get excited about as their rebuild continues.
