Music legend and avid Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher has openly demanded a resignation from Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters.

It comes after City had accused the Premier League of being “misleading” over the verdict in the recent legal case on rules over Associated Party Transactions (APT), having written to all other 19 top-flight clubs criticising the division’s summary of the Award document.

Manchester City’s email, which has been detailed and analysed by multiple media outlets, states that the Premier League’s statement contained “several inaccuracies”, with the correspondence sent by the Etihad club’s general counsel Simon Cliff on Monday.

Both sides ultimately claimed victory after the decision of an arbitration panel was published on Monday following a legal challenge by Manchester City, with two aspects of the APT rules deemed ‘unlawful’ by a tribunal.

From City’s side, they have claimed their legal action had “succeeded”, while the Premier League welcomed the tribunal’s findings, saying it rejected the majority of City’s challenges and “endorsed the overall objectives, framework and decision-making of the APT system”.

Now, it appears as though recent events coupled with rising tensions involving Manchester City and the Premier League, as well as disagreements across the division have led to some questioning Richard Masters’ position as chief executive officer.

Despite some initial doubts as to whether a signature named ‘Noel Gallagher’ on a petition was the Oasis legend and Manchester City fan, it has now been verified and confirmed that he has openly called for Richard Masters’ immediate resignation as Premier League CEO.

Accompanying his signature on a petition that is now rapidly approaching 15,000 names, Gallagher wrote, “It has become clear that HE (Richard Masters) is merely a mouthpiece for the red Cartel.

“He has targeted and continues to target those that will shape the future of English football on behalf of those that are trapped in the past.”

The petition, which has been launched on Change, has a detailed reasoning behind its launch, which reads, “As passionate football fans, we have been deeply affected by the actions and decisions made by Richard Masters, current CEO of the Premier League.

“His reign has been marked by favouritism and a dictatorial approach to disciplinary processes that have left many feeling disillusioned. The lack of independent regulation in English football is a direct result of his lobbying efforts, creating an environment where the same clubs consistently dominate due to higher merits, increased broadcasting money and more media interaction.”

The statement around the demanded resignation of Masters continues, “This unfair system leaves other clubs struggling for survival while being treated with disdain. It’s time for change. We believe in a fair game where every club has an equal chance to succeed – not just those deemed ‘elite’.

“Richard Masters’ manipulation and deceitful tactics are not only damaging our beloved sport but also betraying its true community – us, the fans. We are tired of points deductions and favouritism that punish us for actions taken by club owners.

“We demand Richard Masters’ resignation from his position as CEO of the Premier League. It’s time for leadership that values fairness, transparency and respects all clubs equally. Sign this petition if you believe in a better future for English football!”
