The race to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer is on in earnest. Manchester City are in the thick of that particular race. But Bayern Munich have always loomed over the race to sign the German international. Now, a new report indicates that Wirtz is close to reaching an agreement on personal terms with Bayern Munich. If that report is correct Manchester City may have to look elsewhere in their bid to add more creativity to their midfield as the departure of Kevin De Bruyne looms large.

Bayern Munich appear to be making their move to sign Florian Wirtz.

Santi Aouna has reported for footmercato.net that Bayern Munich have agreed personal terms with Florian Wirtz. Furthermore, Aouna reports that there is no agreement between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in regards to a transfer fee for the German international. Lastly, Aouna reports that Manchester City and Real Madrid retain hope in convincing Wirtz to sign for them.

If Wirtz is unavailable City may need to look elsewhere as a Galatasaray midfielder is named as a potential target.

Manchester City could be forced to look elsewhere in their bid to add more creativity in their midfield if Wirtz decides that a move to Bayern Munich is best for him. Santi Aouna has also reported for footmercato.net that City has identified Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara from Galatasaray as a potential summer target. Furthermore, Aouna reports that Manchester City have held talks with the entourage of Gabriel Sara in recent weeks.

As a player, Gabriel Sara is more of a number eight rather than an attacking midfielder like Florian Wirtz. He can play as a number ten but primarily plays in central midfield for Galatasaray. Gabriel Sara is a quality set-piece taker which stands out in his play. The Brazilian midfielder can also link play well between midfield and attack and his workrate is also a strength of his play.

But Gabriel Sara isn’t a player who could an alternative to Florian Wirtz for Manchester City. He looks to be a player who’d strengthen City’s midfield. If Wirtz does decide that a move to Bayern Munich is his next move City would likely have to look elsewhere to add creativity in the final third. The race to sign Florian Wirtz remains on. But for now, it appears that Bayern Munich may be leading the race at this stage of proceedings.
