Manchester City are preparing an improved offer for Elliot Anderson after an opening proposal was rejected.
The Cityzens have seen an initial bid for the England international turned down by Forest, but are expected to return imminently.
City are the frontrunners to sign Anderson, despite rival interest from Manchester United, with the 23-year-old open to a move to the Etihad. According to The Athletic, negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs in a bid to strike an agreement.
City are chasing a deal for Anderson after an outstanding campaign from the midfielder at the City Ground. Anderson has cemented his place in England’s plans for this summer’s World Cup and is set to feature prominently for Thomas Tuchel at the tournament.
Last season, Anderson ranked in the top five percent of midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues for possessions won and forward passes completed, leading the Premier League on the former metric.
City want Anderson to strengthen a midfield depleted by Bernardo Silva’s exit, while doubts also remain around the futures of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders.
Forest are expected to demand a significant price for Anderson, who is contracted until 2029. It has been suggested that City may need to surpass the £100m club record fee paid to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021.
