Interest from Manchester City in one of PSG’s most exciting attacking talents has been rebuffed by the player himself, who is set on staying in Paris beyond this season.

Hugo Viana – who is set to become the club’s new sporting director this summer – is currently working alongside his soon-to-be predecessor in the run-up to the summer as they plot Manchester City’s transfer business to refresh Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

The January transfer window saw that work begin as an outlay in excess of £170 million was spent on the arrivals of four new stars as City welcomed in a mixture of promising youth talent as well as ready-made first-team profiles.

A similar strategy is expected to be deployed this summer too as Manchester City look to get themselves back competing for the biggest of honours after a disappointing campaign that has seen them restricted to fighting for UEFA Champions League qualification.

And while much of the focus will no doubt be on the chosen name to succeed Kevin De Bruyne in the heart of midfield, it appears as though Manchester City have also been on the search for youthfulness to add to their attacking line.

That is according to Sky’s Sacha Tavolieri, who reveals that PSG’s Désiré Doué put an end to any discussions that may have emerged over a move to Manchester City, having been informed of the club’s intention to ‘do anything to convince the player’s entourage’ of a transfer.

It is reported that the 19-year-old has affirmed his desire to establish himself as the new star of the French club, with PSG’s ownership now prepared to ‘significantly increase’ his salary and extend his deal until the summer of 2030.

However, for now, ‘significant progress’ still needs to be made in various negotiations in order to finalise the aforementioned intentions of the Paris side for one of the most highly-rated attackers in Europe right now.

The forward has only been a Paris Saint-Germain player for less than 12 months having made the switch to the side of the French capital in August 2024 in a transfer from Rennes worth a reported €50 million before bonuses, rejecting an offer from Bayern Munich in the process.

And such a significant investment on a player despite their relative inexperience at the very summit of European football has certainly paid off, with the teenager scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists in 45 appearances across competitions so far this season.

While Manchester City appear to have failed in their ambitious hopes of recruiting the player this summer, it remains to be seen whether such an intention reveals a behind-the-scenes plan to shake up a forward line that many deemed to be safe ahead of the summer.
