Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Sheffield Wednesday academy striker Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri for a deal worth around £1.5 million, as per a new report.

City have orchestrated a major squad revamp already this summer with the acquisitions of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders for a combined sum reaching £110 million.

The Blues are looking to challenge on all fronts next season and win a fifth Premier League title in six seasons after a meagre third-place 2025-26 finish with 71 points – City’s lowest points tally since Pep Guardiola was appointed manager in 2016.

After surrendering their Premier League crown to Liverpool last term, the Manchester City board – led by newly-appointed director of football Hugo Viana – have laid down an early marker to freshen up Guardiola’s squad after the Catalan’s most difficult season in charge of the 2023 treble winners.

Despite being eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup at the Round of 16 stage at the hands of Al-Hilal this week, Manchester City seem to have turned the ship around and there is reason to be excited for what the Blues have in store with their new signings next term.

Reijnders, Ait-Nouri and Cherki have all looked the part in the United States for the Blues, who will trim their bloated first-team squad between now and the beginning of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign in August.

Centre-back is an area that is likely to witness at least one departure as John Stones enters the final 12 months of his current deal, with Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji also coming off the back of injury-riddled seasons.

Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips are all expected to find new clubs after being left out of the Club World Cup squad. City have already let Kevin De Bruyne and Scott Carson leave as the pair approached the end of their respective contracts.

Mail Sport are reporting that Manchester City are closing in on the acquisition of one of England’s most highly-rated teenagers as they move one step closer to a deal that will bring Sheffield Wednesday’s Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri to the City Football Academy.

Cadamarteri has long been linked with a switch to Manchester after establishing himself as one of the Owls’ finest academy prospects and tearing it up for Wednesday’s youth sides in recent seasons.

The deal is understood to be worth £1.5 million and will include an initial £900,000 instalment that is likely to alleviate the Owls’ dire financial situation – with an embargo placed on Wednesday by the EFL.

The transfer is expected to be confirmed this week as Manchester City secure the arrival of another one of England’s best forwards for their prestigious academy, which has produced a rich array of talent for the first-team and clubs across Europe since the Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008.
