Everton are closing in on one of the most eye-catching deals of the summer, with Team Talk confirming that Manchester City star Jack Grealish has verbally agreed to join the Toffees on a season-long loan. The 29-year-old, who has struggled for consistent game time at the Etihad, has now given the green light for a move to Merseyside, potentially transforming David Moyes’ attacking options.
The Toffees have already made five signings this window, the latest being Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea, who impressed in the pre-season finale against Roma. However, Moyes has remained insistent that more quality must be added before the transfer window closes. Grealish, first linked in May, has been a long-standing target.

Discussions between Everton and Manchester City are ongoing, with confidence growing in the Everton camp that a deal can be struck. The sticking point remains the financial structure, particularly Grealish’s £300,000-a-week wages. The Citizens are keen to offload as much of that as possible, with Everton estimating the total package could reach £12 million, including a loan fee. Crucially, Moyes is not deterred by the outlay, viewing Grealish as a marquee addition who can lift the team’s attacking threat.
“Grealish views a move to Everton as the perfect opportunity to play regular football again,” sources suggest, with the player keen to impress England manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Grealish, who cost City a British record £100 million in 2021, scored three goals and registered five assists last season. His versatility makes him a valuable option on either flank or in an advanced midfield role. Everton’s attack has lacked both flair and unpredictability in recent seasons, and Grealish could provide the creative spark to break down stubborn defences.
There remains a faint risk of Tottenham or another club making a late move, particularly with Spurs showing interest following James Maddison’s injury, but Everton are firmly in pole position.
Being omitted from City’s FIFA Club World Cup squad and their pre-season fixture against Palermo underlines Pep Guardiola’s willingness to part ways. For Everton, securing Grealish would be a signal to rivals that they are serious about pushing higher up the Premier League table.
If agreed swiftly, Grealish could be in place to make an immediate impact, giving Moyes a player capable of shifting matches in Everton’s favour. As Team Talk reported, “there is still work to be done” but the mood at Goodison Park is increasingly optimistic.
Everton fans have every reason to be excited. Signing Jack Grealish, even on loan, feels like a turning point. After years of conservative recruitment, this is a deal that says Everton are ready to fight, not just survive. Grealish may not have hit his Aston Villa heights consistently at City, but the environment at Goodison could reignite him.
Yes, the wages are enormous, and £12 million for a loan is a heavy investment. But if Grealish plays every week, creates chances, and chips in with goals, the cost will feel justified. His ability to draw fouls, control the tempo, and unlock packed defences is exactly what Everton have lacked.
There will be scepticism too. Big-name arrivals have not always worked out on Merseyside, and Grealish’s injury record is a concern. If Tottenham do come in late, Everton’s resolve will be tested. But with Moyes pushing hard, this feels like a calculated gamble worth taking.
For a club looking to restore pride and compete in the top half, adding a proven England international with something to prove could be the boldest move of the summer. The fans will be hoping the deal crosses the line quickly.
