Manchester City take on Liverpool today at the Etihad Stadium in what figures to be a massive Premier League fixture. With Arsenal dropping points yesterday after drawing 2-all with Sunderland the opportunity is there for City or Liverpool to gain ground on Mikel Arteta’s side. Today’s match was a big match anyway but it does feel that little bit bigger after yesterday’s results.
Here is the latest Manchester City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven ahead of today’s match.
Mateo Kovacic will miss today’s match due to a heel injury. The Croatian midfielder will be sidelined for several months which is a cruel blow for Kovacic and his team.
Rodri is unlikely to be risked for today’s match as per Pep Guardiola’s update on Friday. The Spanish international is likely to be given time to get himself fully fit so it would be a surprise if he made the bench at the Etihad today.
Outside of those two players, Pep Guardiola will have almost a full squad to choose from for today’s match.
Gianluigi Donnarumma: Donnarumma is certain to start today and if he plays well City generally win.
Matheus Nunes: There is no reason for Matheus Nunes not to start against Liverpool. He is in superb form and deserves to keep his place at right-back.
Ruben Dias: Manchester City’s defensive leader will have a big role to play today. I expect him to start and lead from the front today.
Josko Gvardiol: It wouldn’t surprise me if John Stones started and Josko Gvardiol slotted in at left-back. But I’d like to see Gvardiol start alongside Dias with Nico O’Reilly at left-back.
Nico O’Reilly: Like Matheus Nunes, Nico O’Reilly fully deserves to start today in a massive fixture. He is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League on form so I’m hoping he keeps his place today.
Nico: The Spanish midfielder is a certain starter in the heart of City’s midfield today.
Bernardo Silva: Manchester City’s captain didn’t start against Dortmund. I expect him to return to the starting lineup today.
Phil Foden: Foden is back to his best and figures to be a key player in today’s match.
Rayan Cherki: I’m hoping that Cherki starts as I feel that his strengths as a player can expose Liverpool’s weaknesses.
Jeremy Doku: Doku is another player who deserves to start today based oonhis recent fform. He could be a key player today if he can get at Liverpool’s defence.
Erling Haaland: Of all of the players who will play today, Haaland looms over proceedings. If he continues his strong form he can fire his team to a massive three points at the Etihad today.
