Fresh comments from Rafael Leao have reignited speculation about his future, with Calciomercato reporting that the AC Milan forward is preparing for a new chapter away from San Siro. While several clubs are monitoring the situation, the prospect of a Premier League move inevitably places Manchester United and Liverpool among the most intriguing potential destinations.

Leao remains one of the most talented attacking players in European football. Yet after a difficult campaign in Milan, the Portuguese international appears increasingly open to a fresh challenge.
Speaking recently, the forward effectively acknowledged that his time with the Rossoneri may be drawing to a close. Those comments have quickly shifted attention towards which clubs might be prepared to make a move.
There was a time when Leao’s €175 million release clause made any transfer discussion largely theoretical.
That no longer appears to be the case.
According to Calciomercato, Milan would now consider offers significantly below that figure, with previous expectations sitting in the €50 million to €60 million range. The report also suggests his recent comments may further weaken Milan’s negotiating position.
Leao’s earlier social media message now carries additional significance.

“It was a period that tested my physical and psychological state to the max, and only those who experienced it firsthand know how difficult it was for me. That’s why I want to thank everyone who did what was possible and impossible during this period, to take a completely different direction than the one we had. May Milan return to winning ways next season.”
Read in isolation, it was an emotional reflection. Viewed alongside his latest remarks, it increasingly resembles a farewell.
Manchester United’s name continues to feature prominently whenever Leao’s future is discussed.
Calciomercato notes that the Portuguese attacker has long admired the club and has previously spoken about his affection for English football.
“I often watch the Premier League. I like Manchester United especially for Cristiano Ronaldo, who is my idol, but Arsenal is also a team I follow on TV.”
Those comments will naturally attract attention at Old Trafford.
United have returned to the Champions League under Michael Carrick and are expected to strengthen several areas of the squad. Leao’s ability to play from the left while contributing goals and creativity makes him an appealing profile.
The fact that he openly references Cristiano Ronaldo when discussing United only adds another layer to the story.
Whether admiration develops into concrete negotiations remains to be seen, but the links have persisted for some time.
Liverpool are also mentioned by Calciomercato among the clubs keeping a close eye on events.
No formal approach has reportedly been made, but the situation is one worth monitoring.
Liverpool have consistently looked for elite attacking talent capable of operating across multiple positions. Leao’s pace, direct running and physical profile would undoubtedly fit the demands of Premier League football.
The key question is whether Liverpool view him as a priority target or simply an attractive market opportunity.
Much will depend on wider squad planning, available finances and how Milan’s valuation develops over the coming weeks.
With Tottenham, Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea also credited with interest, competition would be fierce if Leao became genuinely available at the figures being discussed.
While clubs across Europe continue to assess their options, the Premier League feels like the most realistic destination.
Barcelona have reportedly focused resources elsewhere, Bayern Munich are well stocked in attacking positions, and other alternatives in Turkey or Saudi Arabia remain difficult to assess at this stage.
For Manchester United and Liverpool, this is the type of market situation that can evolve rapidly.
A player entering his prime years, openly discussing a new challenge and potentially available for a fraction of his release clause is bound to attract attention.
From both Manchester United and Liverpool, Rafael Leao represents the type of signing capable of transforming an attack.
United supporters would understandably be excited by the possibility. The club have spent years searching for consistent elite quality in wide areas and Leao possesses the pace, flair and physicality needed to thrive in the Premier League. His admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United will only strengthen the belief that a deal could be possible if the club decide to pursue it seriously.
Liverpool fans may view the situation slightly differently. Recruitment at Anfield is usually driven by strategic planning rather than opportunity alone. However, if a player of Leao’s quality becomes available at around €50 million to €60 million, it becomes difficult to ignore. He has the attributes to succeed in Liverpool’s high intensity attacking system and would add another dimension to the forward line.
Supporters of both clubs will also recognise the risks. Leao’s recent struggles at Milan and his own references to a challenging period raise legitimate questions about consistency.
Even so, elite talent often comes with uncertainty.
If Milan are genuinely willing to negotiate at the reported figures, both Manchester United and Liverpool would be expected to examine the possibility closely. Opportunities to acquire a player of this calibre rarely emerge at such a price point.
