In a recent report, The Sun revealed that Manchester United are ready to step up their pursuit of Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are prepared to meet the Portuguese club’s £60m asking price for their prized asset this off-season.

Gyokeres’ Excellent Form In Liga Portugal Last Season

The 27-year-old enjoyed a brilliant campaign at Sporting after he put in plenty of goal-scoring performances for them in Liga Portugal. Gyokeres found the back of the net 54 times and earned 13 assists in 52 appearances for the Portuguese outfit last season in all competitions.

The Swedish talent spearheaded the attack well for Sporting as he attempted 4.08 shots per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He also kept 52% of his shots on target. However, Gyokeres has to find a way to improve his link-up play up top based on his pass completion rate of 71.4% in the Portuguese first division (stats via fbref.com).

The Swedish talent is under contract at Sporting until the summer of 2028. Thus, Man United would have no choice but to meet the Portuguese club’s valuation if they want to bring Gyokeres to Old Trafford.

Will Gyokeres Be A Dream Choice For Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim?

Gyokeres is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the pitch and is usually very clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty area.

The Swedish talent has proven himself to be a deadly finisher in Portuguese football. However, the jury is still out on whether he can maintain his excellent form in the Premier League if Man United manage to snap him up in this summer transfer window.

We can expect Gyokeres to bring a lot of firepower to Ruben Amorim’s frontline. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club and would serve as an upgrade over Rasmus Hojlund, who struggled to find consistency for the Red Devils last season.
