Manchester United are interested in signing Sunderland sensation Chris Rigg, as per reports.

INEOS showed great determination during the summer to back Erik ten Hag by spending around £200m on five new signings for the first-team.

Regardless, the Dutch coach has failed to improve his side’s performances and results, and apart from Noussair Mazraoui, none of the signings have managed to impress so far.

The frustrating start has also led to United reportedly holding “secret talks” with a number of potential Erik ten Hag replacements.

Despite the uncertainty over their manager’s future, INEOS are supposedly working on making new signings.

As per GIVEMESPORT, INEOS are “in the hunt for the long run.” Accordingly, they are looking to bring “younger, high potential talents” to Old Trafford.

Rigg, who has taken the Championship by storm since his debut in 2023, is one of the players who fit the bill and is being closely monitored by the Mancunian giants.

It is claimed that United could be “set to make a move” for the 17-year-old, who has scored three goals in 11 league appearances for Sunderland this term.

The report adds that the 17-year-old midfielder “is seen as the type of player who represents the amount of potential that United chiefs want to bring into their squad, with INEOS keen on prioritising youth and building for the future – be that with or without Erik ten Hag.”

Rigg, who is thought to have a “high ceiling”, is being followed by clubs across Europe. United, in particular, are impressed with his ball-carrying ability and eye for a pass from deep.

Even during their first summer at the club, Dan Ashworth and company strengthened United’s options for the future by adding Chido Obi-Martin and Sékou Koné to their ranks.

Obi-Martin, who left Arsenal’s academy to move to Manchester, bagged a hat-trick on his first start for United’s U18s on Saturday.
