Alejandro Garnacho has been in the spotlight in recent days for all the wrong reasons following his antics on Wednesday evening.
During Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town this week, the forward was sacrificed to make way for defensive reinforcements after Patrick Dorgu’s early dismissal. Garnacho was replaced by Noussair Mazraoui on the brink of half-time and proceeded to walk straight down the tunnel rather than taking a seat on the substitutes’ bench.
Then, when the full-time whistle had blown and the dust had settled on the night’s events, the youngster took to Instagram to share a snap of himself looking somewhat aggrieved as he headed off the pitch, prompting speculation over his feelings on the matter.
Ruben Amorim addressed the issue when speaking with the press post-match, saying: “I am going to talk with Garnacho about that. You are making a connection with Rashford. It was cold and wet.”
“The thinking was that we would play 5-3-1,” he reasoned. “That is a risk because he [Garnacho] is the one who can play one-v-one in pace. We had to choose someone to go out. It was my choice.”

Alas, it seems as though the matter has been put to bed now, as the head coach today updated reporters on the situation in his pre-Fulham press conference.
“He (Garnacho) came to me. It was funny because he came to my office. I did an investigation [and] he went to the dressing room to change his clothes because they were wet,” Amorim revealed. “He watched the game from somewhere different from the bench. There is no issue. I told him perception is important. He will pay for dinner for all the team.
“He is a young kid that will learn. The important thing is that in the next morning, he was speaking with me. [Joshua] Zirkzee did the same thing (walking down the tunnel), but the context was different. We can deal with that, and let’s just move on.”
