Manchester United have held talks to sign Besiktas midfielder Wilfred Ndidi before the end of the winter transfer window, according to former Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers.
The Red Devils reportedly want to bring the Nigerian international to Old Trafford. Ndidi is open to joining them as he wants to return to England a year after leaving Leicester City.
The 29-year-old spent nine years with the Foxes, playing 303 games across the eight seasons they spent in the English top flight. Man United could do with his experience.
Interim manager Michael Carrick would be open to strengthening his options in the middle of the park, and Ndidi fits the bill.
Man United have Casemiro in the role, but they need cover and Ndidi fits the bill.
He proved at the recent Africa Cup of Nations that he still has what it takes to play at the highest level, and more Premier League clubs could join the race to sign him.
The former Leicester star can also play as a centre-back having actually started his career there, and his versatility could come in handy for United.
His strengths include winning aerial duels, tackling, blocking and intercepting the ball, and Man United have been crying out for this type of player in their midfield.
The Red Devils are desperate to qualify for the Champions League next season, and they could do with one or two quality additions this winter.
Former Man United boss Ruben Amorim wanted a midfield signing last summer after bolstering his attack, but none arrived.
The Portuguese had Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson on his radar.
The Red Devils could revisit signing them in the summer, but Ndidi may be the perfect short-term solution.
