Manchester United are currently pushing ahead with their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, according to Sky Sports Germany.

Man United manager Michael Carrick wants to bring the Germany international to the Old Trafford club, and the Red Devils’ director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is in close contact with the representatives of the 25-year-old.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid also want Nmecha, and Man United are desperate to pip them to his services.

The Dortmund star has been one of the best players for Germany at the ongoing World Cup, scoring one goal in the 7-1 win over Curacao and grabbing the second assist to help his country to a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast.

The Red Devils could do with such a player in the middle of the park, but signing him will cost top dollar as he does not have a release clause.

Dortmund are unwilling to let Nmecha leave and are counting on him for next season.

Man United are set to miss out on West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes as they are unwilling to pay what the Hammers are demanding.

It is believed the relegated club want around £80 million for the Portuguese, which has dissuaded the Red Devils and given Tottenham Hotspur the chance to move to the front of the queue.

Man United are now looking elsewhere and Nmecha could emerge as their next concrete target if they are ready to pay what the Bundesliga club want.

The former Man City man could be open to joining the Red Devils, but getting a deal done could prove tricky given the other suitors in the race and Dortmund’s current stance.
