Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong if the former Ajax star leaves the Nou Camp in the summer transfer window.

There has been long interest from Manchester United in Frenkie De Jong with the Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag a huge admirer of the Dutch midfielder.

Manchester United had previously agreed on a fee with Barcelona for De Jong in 2022 but the star decided to stay in La Liga.

Erik ten Hag previously admitted that he ‘needs’ De Jong to play Ajax football at Old Trafford and that he would have complimented Casemiro in the Manchester United midfield.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to re-ignite their long interest in the ‘incredible’ midfielder if the Barcelona star decides to leave in the summer.

According to Fijchaes, Manchester United are one of the leading clubs in the race to sign the Dutch star.

The report states: “Frenkie de Jong, a key Barcelona midfielder, could be living out his final months at the Catalan club. At 27 years old

“The Dutch player has already sparked the interest of several clubs, especially Manchester United, a team that has followed his development closely in recent years. If he does not renew his contract, the Catalan club could be forced to sell him in the summer of 2025 to avoid his free departure a year later.

“Manchester United, who have tried to sign De Jong in the past, seem to be the main candidates to secure his services
