Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire were absent from training on Friday morning, and Amorim has confirmed that neither player will be available for selection against Everton.

Sesko was withdrawn late on during United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham before the international break, while Maguire was substituted in the 72nd minute with a hamstring issue.

In his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Amorim said that Sesko’s knee injury was not serious, but admitted he expected the Slovenian striker to be back around the same time that players are set to report for the Africa Cup of Nations.

“He is going to stay a few weeks out. I don't know how long, but it is not that serious we have to be careful with him,” Amorim said.

“He is going to recover. He is doing the recovery and he is feeling better so we expect in a few weeks to have him back.

“I think it is going to be more or less he will be back at the same time as Amad and Mbeumo leave for AFCON. I don't want to say for sure but when they are going to the camp I expect to have Ben back.”

Kobbie Mainoo, meanwhile, was not included in the United squad as they rescued a point late on at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The England midfielder missed training on Friday, but Amorim said he hoped he would be able to train on Saturday.

“Maguire is not ready, Kobbie didn't train today, but I think tomorrow we could see Kobbie, so we will see.”

In more positive news, defender Lisandro Martinez is getting closer to selection, having returned to full training following an ACL injury suffered in February.

Ruben Amorim on Benjamin Sesko

Amorim, who said he did not believe Martinez was suited to playing in midfield, opted not to select the Argentinian for United’s draws with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham, but could include him in his matchday squad for the first time in nine months against Everton.

“(He is) a smart intelligent football player can play in a lot of positions but it (midfield) is not the right position for him,” Amorim continued.

“He needs more time to work there, but in an emergency, he can play, but I am not thinking about that. I feel Licha is becoming close to being able to play.

“We need to be careful, he is going to struggle in the first minutes, but he is clearly in a better position than he was two weeks ago.”
