Manchester United plan 13-player summer clear-out

Manchester United are planning a 13-player summer clear-out to reduce their wage bill and free funds for summer investment.

The Red Devils are plotting a serious overhaul of their squad as the club prepare to return to the Champions League next season.

Michael Carrick’s side need a maximum of five points from their final five games to be sure of a place in the competition next season.

According to the Express, several high-earners will be moved on to slash the salary bill. Casemiro’s exit is confirmed, with the Brazil midfielder set to depart when his contract expires.

Jadon Sancho’s will also expire in the summer, while suitors will be sought for Marcus Rashford, if his loan move to Barcelona is not made permanent. The departure of that trio will trim around £44m from the club’s annual wage bill.

Rasmus Hojlund’s loan move to Napoli will be made permanent for a fee of around £38m if, as expected, the Italian side secure Champions League football. Napoli are second in Serie A and eight points clear of fifth-placed Roma, with four games to go.

Other names set to depart include Andre Onana, Tyrell Malacia, Altay Bayindir, Tyler Fredricson, Toby Collyer and Dan Gore.

Offers will also be invited for Radek Vitek, who has impressed on loan at Bristol City, and midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The latter has interest from Juventus and Premier League teams.

Manchester United hope to raise enough funds to finance deals for at least two new central midfielders and a left-back. A left-sided central defender, experienced striker, and left-winger will also be targeted if affordable.
