The 196th Manchester derby ended in a 0-0 draw, as Manchester United and Manchester City failed to light up the day. Ruben Amorim’s side, however, looked the more likely to find the breakthrough. Unfortunately, they could not get the all-important goal in the match. At the back, they were disciplined and did very well to disrupt the visitors’ attempts to build play. When City did get through, André Onana did enough to keep them out. The result means United remains 13th in the Premier League table.
Ruben Amorim made a couple of changes to his lineup. Harry Maguire came in for the injured Matthijs de Ligt, while up front, Rasmus Højlund replaced Joshua Zirkzee. The home side started very sharp, with Alejandro Garnacho making a surging run that forced Ruben Dias into a yellow-card challenge. United looked the more dangerous in transition, breaking with intent. However, despite getting the ball into the box on multiple occasions, nothing came of it. Meanwhile, the visitors had plenty of possession but rarely threatened, and the first half ended goalless.
The second half continued much in the same rhythm. Apart from one half-chance for Phil Foden, the visitors never truly looked like scoring at Old Trafford. Manchester United came close with a few chances of their own, but Ederson remained unbreached. After the substitutions, United took control of the game, and City struggled to get the ball away from their own goal. However, despite the pressure, nothing came off it, and the match ended without a goal.
A quiet first half. Made some good saves from Marmoush in the second, the second one particularly well with sunlight hitting his eyes.
Made the most clearances in the match among his teammates. Second-most in tackles won in the match. Second-most in accurate passes in his team as well.
Did well to block off Marmoush and the City attack overall. Was taken off just before the hour mark and looked in discomfort while coming off.
Did well to fend off Bernardo Silva in the first half. Got yellow in the final 10 minutes for pulling Marmoush's arm to stop him. Got the most interceptions in the match.
Put in some good crosses including a brilliant one to the six-yard box but his teammates failed to make the most of it. Made the most final third passes in the team. Did well to stop attacks from his side.
Did well to cause trouble when going forward for set pieces. Made some good tackles in the middle. Had the most tackles and won more duels than anyone.
Went forward multiple times to provide an extra man in the attack. Had the most shots for United, including one that went close with a nice strike just before being taken off.
Opted not to hit it the first time when there was space to score in the first half. Did well to put himself as an option in attack when Garnacho attacked from the right. Had the most touches in the box in the match. Created two chances.
Controlled the game when the home side had the ball. Showed great composure to keep the ball amid pressure in the first half. Found runners consistently with long balls. Created the most chances in the match.
Made a good run and almost got a penalty but was fouled just before reaching the box. Made another run and cross but his teammates failed to make anything of it. Was the attacking outlet most times. Made a number of good runs.
Did well to put Garnacho through in the opening seconds. Combined well with the attacking midfielders behind him.
Did well enough to stop the Man City attack.
Got an early yellow card. Had a good shot but was blocked. Good cross to find Zirkzee in the final five minutes.
Good shot from Dorgu’s cross, but it was saved. Did well to rob the ball off Bernardo Silva later in the match.
