Manchester United huffed and puffed their way to a 1-0 win against Fulham away at Craven Cottage on Sunday but familiar issues still remain.

Most notably at left wingback with Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot occupying the role at different intervals during the game. While both tried hard, neither could excel.

Ruben Amorim’s system employs wingbacks to add width and attacking thrust up front, something both United stars have been unable to provide, which is natural given they are traditional full-backs by trade.

Which is why the head coach has demanded INEOS to bring in Patrick Dorgu of Lecce but so far, there remains a deadlock between both clubs owing to the player’s price.

Dorgu chase on

The Red Devils had seen their second bid in the region of €30 million get rejected with the Italian side holding out for €40 million.

Lecce officials had already revealed that they were trying their best to hold on to the Denmark international and it made sense given his importance to the team and the fact that the club was fighting a relegation battle.

Rumours had surfaced claiming that the Old Trafford side were ready to move on and target former academy graduate Alvaro Carreras instead, owing to the club’s buyback clause.

But Theatre of Red‘s Shaun Connolly has claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that United are increasingly confident that a deal can be agreed with Lecce with the addition of €3-€4 million in add-ons.

Huge wage rise on the cards

He also revealed that INEOS were prepared to sextuple Dorgu’s wages. The 20-year-old currently earns around €12,500 gross per week (via capology) at the Stadio Via del mare.

And the 20-time English league champions are willing to offer him £63,000-per-week or £3.3 million per year, a huge rise which is bound to turn his head.

INEOS will offer the versatile wingback a five-year deal with the option of another year, which means he will be in Manchester until 2031.

Despite their public stance, Lecce must be slowly coming to terms with their talisman’s departure, which is why they are closing in on a replacement. All signs point towards Dorgu’s imminent arrival at the Theatre of Dreams.
