It is no secret that Michael Carrick’s priority, after being named permanent head coach following a strong finish to the Premier League season, in the summer transfer window is to bolster the Man United engine room.

It is understood that Man United will pay Atalanta a €40.5million (£34.9million) fixed fee plus €4.5m (£3.8m) of potential bonuses, while Ederson has agreed a four-year contract which includes the option of an additional 12 months.

However, reports in Italy claim an announcement is imminent now that Brazil’s first game of the tournament - a 1-1 draw with Morocco - is out of the way.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport, Ederson is to finally undergo his medical in New York on Sunday, meaning he is one step closer to becoming a Man United player.

The report also states that United’s transfer business will not stop at Ederson. The club are looking to sign a left-back, a left-winger and, as mentioned above, one other central midfielder.

Lewis Hall and Bradley Barcola are the names being linked to bolster Man Utd’s left-hand side, while there is a genuine interest in West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Amid reports of a bid being prepared for the Portugal international - who missed out on the World Cup squad - Standard Sport understands the Hammers have set an asking price of £80m for the 21-year-old.

Man Utd are said to be unwilling to pay that fee, therefore a compromise must be reached or alternatives such as Bournemouth’s Alex Scott may come into consideration.
