Manchester United's first of two friendly games in Asia ended in a 1-0 loss to the ASEAN All-Stars.

After wrapping up a lackluster 2024/25 season, the team headed to Malaysia for their post-season tour, expected to earn the club around £8 million in commercial revenue.

In an unusual pre-match scene, the squad arrived at the stadium on an open-top bus before facing a select team of South-East Asia’s top international players.

Manager Ruben Amorim named a strong starting XI featuring Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Patrick Dorgu, Diogo Dalot, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, and Rasmus Hojlund. Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo were among those brought on later in a match where roll-on, roll-off substitutions were permitted.

United had their best opportunity of the first half when Mainoo’s effort inside the box was kept out by ASEAN All-Stars keeper Patiwat Khammai.

Despite making sweeping changes at the break, United fell behind in the second half when Maung Maung Lwin scored the game’s only goal, slotting the ball past Tom Heaton.

United will continue their tour on Friday with a match against the Hong Kong national team.
