According to Turkish Football, Manchester United are now ready to intensify their pursuit of highly rated Fenerbahçe midfielder Yusuf Akçicek.

Akçicek, as per the report, has impressed United scouts, who as reported here some weeks ago, have been closely monitoring his development in the Turkish league.

The youngster made his Turkish Süper Lig debut in the 2023-24 season, but after just one rare appearance that campaign, he has truly begun to establish himself in the top flight this season.

He has started four of his eight league appearances, though interestingly, most of his game time has come in the UEFA Europa League.

In Europe, he has featured in seven matches, starting six, contributing a goal and an assist.

His performances have been so impressive that he earned a place in the Europa League Team of the Week.

Observers have raved about his technical ability, vision, and maturity beyond his years.

Mourinho’s influence on Akçicek

Though naturally a midfielder, Fenerbahçe head coach José Mourinho has opted to deploy him as a left-sided defender.

The former United boss likely wants to instil defensive discipline in him, in a similar fashion to how Mikel Arteta has been developing Myles Lewis-Skelly at Arsenal.

Interestingly, Fenerbahçe appear open to cashing in on the 19-year-old, whom Football Talent Scout has described as a superb line-breaking passer who remains composed under pressure.

Fenerbahce’s stance on a potential transfer

The Turkish giants are expected to welcome offers for the teenager but will not sell him cheaply.

They consider him one of their brightest prospects and are reportedly only willing to sanction his departure if a €25 million (£21.5 million) bid comes through.

A transfer battle brewing

While Manchester United would be keen to close a deal for the Fenerbahçe star, Football Turkey suggests they could find themselves locked in a transfer battle with Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

Villa, too, have apparently been impressed by the young talent and may challenge United for his signature.

With the Red Devils eager to secure him, it will be intriguing to see if they can fend off their league rivals in the race.

His signing could see INEOS continue their commitment to investing in promising young talent as they build for the future.
