Daniel Farke could face a battle to keep first-choice goalkeeper Karl Darlow this summer, with outside interest emerging as his Leeds United deal runs down.

The Athletic reports that Manchester United are ‘considering an approach’ for the Wales international, whose contract is due to expire in the coming weeks.

Darlow, 35, made 22 Premier League appearances last season, stepping in for Lucas Perri and steadying the side with a series of strong displays. He earned a save of the season nomination and has established himself as Wales No.1 under Craig Bellamy.

Manchester United are thought to want additional depth in goal, with back-up Altay Bayindir expected to leave. Darlow’s homegrown status could encourage interest and Leeds may have a fight on to keep him.

Asked about his goalkeeper options in late April, Farke said he would only discuss futures once decisions were confirmed, but his selections underlined how much he trusts and values Darlow, who was his number one during the run-in ahead of Perri.

He praised the veteran’s recent form and character, spoke of mutual trust and hinted at his stance, while reiterating he would speak about the future only when matters are settled.

Outside attention introduces uncertainty, though the report added that Leeds want to retain Darlow and plan to offer a new deal. Last week club captain Ethan Ampadu signed a new four-year contract.
