Manchester United’s move for Ederson appears to be off for now, yet the Atalanta midfielder remains an option to revisit later in the window despite talks over Youri Tielemans.

According to The Athletic, United are in advanced discussions to sign 29-year-old Aston Villa and Belgium midfielder Tielemans, and could return to Ederson’s situation before the deadline.

In June, United were reported to have agreed a package worth up to €45m with Atalanta for the Brazil international. Doubts then emerged last week over medical and fitness concerns.

Ederson underwent initial tests in the United States before Brazil’s World Cup campaign, then travelled to the UK for further checks with United’s doctors, after which several outlets said the transfer was off.

The pursuit of Tielemans would come alongside a £50m deal agreed with Chelsea for Andrey Santos, as Michael Carrick looks to reshape his midfield with at least two, possibly three, additions.

It remains to be seen whether Atalanta and Ederson would entertain renewed talks. In Italy, the club are said to be pushing a new contract, with his current deal now into its final year and expiring in summer 2027, and they maintain he is injury free.
