Red Devils continue post-Ruben Amorim era in FA Cup

Manchester United take on Brighton in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Darren Fletcher will once again take charge of the side after Ruben Amorim was sacked on Monday.

Fletcher oversaw the 2-2 draw at Burnley in midweek, where Benjamin Sesko netted twice.

United are in discussions with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick over potential returns to the club as caretaker managers until the end of the campaign, when a longer-term appointment is hoped to be hired.

Now, however, they have Brighton in their short-term sights as attention turns to the domestic cup.

It is the only cup competition that United are involved in at this stage of the campaign, with no European football and their early Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Grimsby last year.

Fabian Hurzeler’s Seagulls, meanwhile, are 11th in the Premier League table, and they make a quick return to Manchester after holding Manchester City to a 1-1 draw in midweek.

Kaoru Mitoma scored the equaliser to cancel out Erling Haaland’s opener from the spot.

The Sussex club’s form has been inconsistent this term, but they are unbeaten in their last three, with a draw at West Ham and a 2-0 win over Burnley preceding the point taken at City.

Otherwise, Fletcher has a full squad to pick from after Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount both returned from injury at Turf Moor.

Harry Maguire was an unused substitute as well, and he could make his own comeback here.

Brighton, meanwhile, are hoping that Yankuba Minteh will recover in time from a knock to make this game.

Carlos Baleba is away at AFCON, while striker Stefanos Tzimas is out long-term with an ACL injury.
