The Portuguese midfielder has created 16 assists this season in the Premier League and recently overtook David Beckham for the most assists in a Premier League season for Manchester United. Who is the player who tops the list in United’s illustrious history?

All-time Man United assist makers

Top 10

1) Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs is by far the player in United’s history with the most assists and appearances.

The flying winger terrorised defences for over 20 years in England and Europe.

2) Wayne Rooney

The club’s all-time leading goalscorer was much more than just a poacher. Rooney also combined grit and craft as he often carved out chances for his teammates during one of the club’s most successful eras.

3) David Beckham The England star had the most famous right foot in all of football and could bend the ball in a way most could only dream of. His set-piece prowess was not only in goalscoring but also in whipping in delightful crosses for grateful attackers to nod in.

4) Bruno Fernandes Fernandes has been in incredible form this season and is, by a distance, United’s creative fulcrum. The truth is, since his move to Old Trafford in January 2020, he has proven himself to be the best unlocker of defences in the league.

5) Paul Scholes Scholes was incredibly admired for numerous reasons as a player, but little could compete with his incredible passing skills. The English star would not only grab crucial goals but would also frequently create for others in the 1990s and 2000s.

6) Marcus Rashford The United academy product is now at FC Barcelona and does not look to have much future at the club. In spite of this, he has still played a vital role in the recent history of the team in both goals and assists.

7) Bobby Charlton Charlton is one of, if not the most, iconic players to grace the field at Old Trafford. The all-action midfielder could score and create at will and rightfully takes his place on this list.

8) Cristiano Ronaldo The Portuguese star dazzled Old Trafford from 2003 to 2009 and in a brief cameo from 2021 to 2022. The world knows him as an incredible goal poacher, but Old Trafford knew him as a wiry, creative winger before most knew there was another Ronaldo on the world football stage.

9) Nani The winger was often unfairly criticised during his time at Old Trafford, but fans have realised his value since he departed the club. Nani played alongside some of the best players in the club’s history and often helped them dominate the era of the late 2000s and early 2010s.

10) Eric Cantona Nobody defines the Manchester United Premier League era more than Eric Cantona. His maverick style and incredible goals and assists fired the Red Devils to four league titles in five years, and the Frenchman’s impact at Old Trafford will never be forgotten.
