One of Hansi Flick’s earliest decisions that showcased his willingness to bet on academy talent at FC Barcelona was the importance he gave to the midfielder Marc Bernal. The Spaniard played in the first few games of the German coach’s tenure, as the trainer decided to try him while looking to replace Sergio Busquets in his team.
Unfortunately, despite impressing in these early games, the Spanish player suffered a serious injury, that kept him out of action for around a year. He returned from this injury only last season, but, both he and Flick, had to remain very cautious to ensure he does not suffer from a relapse.
However, he has now fully recovered from his injury, and not being a part of the Spanish national team for the World Cup 2026, Diario AS notes that he would have the entirety of this summer to train and prepare himself for the next season. Thus, he has a good opportunity to get to his best level, and establish himself as a key part of Hansi Flick’s team for years to come.
Bernal has already shown glimpses of his talent and skills to the German coach, but going forward, the Barcelona tactician would be able to use him more freely. With his physique, height, duel-winning capability, and ability to control the ball under pressure, he would turn out to be a very useful tool for Flick.
But one other quality that would make him highly valuable would be his goalscoring ability, as he can provide an already proven goal threat from the midfield. Last season, he scored a total of 5 goals in 33 games in all competitions.
Hopefully, he would take full advantage of this summer, and especially of the upcoming preseason to showcase his skills to Hansi Flick, and become a key player for Barcelona going forward.
