Chelsea full back Marc Cucurella has pointed at the way the team play as to why we’ve seen big mistakes lately.

The Blues beat Benfica 1-0 last night in the Champions League, but it was a tough game to play and The Blues certainly didn’t make it easy for themselves.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea make contact to sign international centre back in the January window!!

Enzo Maresca had a playful response when asked about yet another red card being given to a Chelsea player last night after striker Joao Pedro got sent off late in the game for a second bookable offence.

It took an own goal for Chelsea to win the game after some good work by Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho forced it in the first half.

Unfortunately the red card wasn’t the only one Chelsea have had recently, and it is actually the third they have had in three games now with Robert Sanchez and Trevoh Chalobah also getting sent off in two of their most recent games. It’s not idea, far from it.

The Blues man was asked about the red cards and why they are happening after the win last night.

He said:

“Many of them are because we want to go and pressure the opponent,” he said after the game.

“We played with a lot of open space. And in those one-on-one situations, if you arrive a little late, it can lead to a red card. But that’s no excuse. We have to improve on those small mistakes and learn how to suffer when we have to play with ten men.”

Expected to win

Cucurella continued:

“Here, we’re expected to win every game, so I understand the demands,” he said.

“We’re coming off three tough games, and we’re here to learn. It’s better for it to happen now than at the end of the season, because there’s still a lot of championship left to play.

“We’re a young team, and we’re learning things and improving in every game. The important thing is to reach the end of the season in the best possible shape and try to fight for everything.”
