Bournemouth head coach Marco Rose says Benfica defender António Silva wants to leave for the Premier League side, with negotiations under way between the clubs.
"It is no secret we want this player. We are in negotiations and the player is very close. It is not for me to say more. We want this player, he wants to join us and the clubs are talking. We are waiting for him," said Rose, speaking to BBC Sports.
The 22-year-old centre-back is expected to sign a five-year deal, keeping him at Bournemouth until June 2031. It would be his first move outside Portugal.
A Seixal graduate, António Silva was about to start his fifth season in Benfica’s first team and captained the opening games of the new campaign. A departure would end a long spell in which he became a key figure.
Despite the speculation, Marco Silva said after the match in Switzerland that he will continue to plan with the defender until any official confirmation of an exit, adding that all preparation and conversations with António remain as with a Benfica player.
