Marco Rose will not take charge of RB Leipzig’s game against Union Berlin on Saturday after being sent off for a second-bookable offence against Bayer Leverkusen. Not only that, but the Saxony club will also be without captain Willi Orban after the DFB rejected the club’s appeal to reduce the player’s suspension following his red card against Bochum.

On Wednesday, the DFB rejected RB Leipzig’s appeal against Orban’s two-game ban following a tackle on Bochum’s Myron Boadu on the opening weekend, but Rose drew comparisons to a similar challenge by Mats Hummels for Borussia Dortmund last season.

“We saw a similar situation, namely the red card given to Mats Hummels in Dortmund against us,” said Rose in Thursday’s press conference. “We are trying to understand for ourselves why Willi Orban was banned for two games and Mats Hummels for only one.”

A statement released by the DFB read: “Willi Orban’s foul prevented an obvious goalscoring opportunity and the free-kick awarded for it did not result in a goal. For a minor foul that does not result in a goal, there is usually a two-game suspension.”

RB Leipzig’s Marco Rose also serves a suspension

Like Orban, Rose is also suspended. The 48-year-old, as reported by Kicker, is not allowed inside the stadium or is able to come into contact with the team 30 minutes before and after the game. This comes after the Leipzig coach was sent off against Bayer Leverkusen for expressing his disapproval of the lack of punishment towards Jonathan Tah for a challenge on Loïs Openda.
