Marco Silva has left Henrique Araújo, Rafael Luís and Gustavo Varela out of Benfica’s plans for 2026-27, and the club want their situations settled by the end of the week, according to Glorioso 1904.
Henrique Araújo is the most advanced case, as he is very close to joining Casa Pia.
The forward was in the first-team squad last season, had limited opportunities, then finished the campaign with the B team. At the Lisbon club he could reunite with Filipe Coelho, a coach familiar with Benfica’s academy.
Rafael Luís and Gustavo Varela are still assessing options. The midfielder has returned from a loan at Strasbourg, who chose not to take up a purchase clause.
Varela has completed his spell at Gil Vicente, despite the Minho club’s interest in extending it. With pre-season under way, Benfica want swift resolutions so the players gain stability and regular minutes, and at this stage a permanent exit remains the likeliest outcome.
