According to Glorioso 1904, Marco Silva has decided João Rego will not be in his plans for 2026/27 at Benfica. The young attacking midfielder has been instructed to find a solution in this summer window, with another player also deemed surplus.
The Rui Costa-led hierarchy believes the Portugal youth international will struggle for first-team minutes next season, so a departure is the likeliest outcome. Benfica are already working on a destination that would offer him regular game time.
Despite his ability and Seixal schooling, Silva views him down the pecking order across midfield and attack.
During pre-season his future remained open, with a chance to convince the new coach. Assessments in recent weeks produced a different conclusion, prompting Benfica’s SAD to pursue a market solution.
The club still regard Rego as an asset with scope to appreciate, so the priority is a deal that safeguards Benfica’s interests. After Silva’s decision, an exit is considered inevitable for the coming campaign.
