According to Globo.com, Marcos Faria Lamacchia is interested in buying Vasco’s SAF, a fresh turn in his family’s ties with president Pedrinho.
Marcos works independently in investments. His mother is an heir of banker Aloysio de Andrade Faria. His father is José Lamacchia, co-owner of Crefisa with his wife, Palmeiras president Leila Pereira.
Nearly two years ago, José negotiated with 777 Partners, then owners of the SAF, offering about US$ 110 million. Talks broke down over payment terms, while backlash linked to Crefisa and conflict-of-interest claims from Palmeiras opposition prompted him to step away.
During Pedrinho’s election campaign, he and Lamacchia agreed naming rights for São Januário, but the deal collapsed. Relations cooled until October this year, when Vasco took a R$ 80 million Crefisa loan for salaries, strategic suppliers and labour and tax liabilities, after assessing offers from other lenders and judging Crefisa’s terms the best.
There has been no official confirmation on a sale. After the associativo regained control of football from 777, Pedrinho signalled that José Lamacchia was drawing closer to the club.
There is a probability that Vasco will seek another loan early this year, with the latest funds forecast to run out in January. Crefisa could again be in the frame to provide it.
