Loan star’s future remains unresolved ahead of season’s end

Marcus Rashford future: Will Hansi Flick keep him or will Michael Carrick bring him home?
Manchester United coach Michael Carrick wants Marcus Rashford to return from his Barcelona loan, with the Spanish club unsure about activating his buy option.
Marcus Rashford enjoyed strong season with Barcelona since joining on loan until the end of the campaign but his long-term future remains undecided.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick praised the England international on several occasions while Rashford has openly admitted that he would like to stay at the Camp Nou beyond his current spell.
Despite his good form, negotiations over permanent move have not been settled yet and both Barcelona & Manchester United watching the situation closely.
According to The Telegraph, Manchester United’s current head coach Michael Carrick wants Rashford back at Old Trafford if he is appointed as the club’s permanent manager.
Carrick was named caretaker coach after Ruben Amorim’s departure and will remain in charge until the end of the season.
His start has been impressive guiding United to back to back wins against Manchester City & Arsenal.
Reports suggest Carrick sees Rashford as key player in his long-term plan and believes he can bring out the forward’s best level again in Manchester.
Carrick’s wish may not be easy to fulfill. Man United reportedly handed the iconic number 10 shirt to current star Matheus Cunha, a decision that could create tension if Rashford returns.
The situation could also lead to disagreements between Carrick and the club’s leadership especially if the coach pushes hard for Rashford’s reinstatement.
Barcelona hold purchase option worth around £26 million (€30 million) but the club is said to be unsure about paying that amount due to ongoing financial limits.
A permanent transfer could also require Rashford to accept wage reduction adding another layer of difficulty to the deal.
On the pitch, the 26 year old continues to make his case. Rashford has scored nine goal this season and provided nine assist working hard to convince Barcelona that he deserves longer stay.
Barcelona expected to make final call once the season finishes, either activating the buy clause or exploring other attacking options.
