Marcus Rashford seemed to blame Manchester United’s “inconsistent environment” for his struggles to find regular form.

Rashford spent ten seasons with United after graduating from the club’s academy, playing under six full-time managers as he scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club.

He left in the summer to join Barcelona on loan with an option to buy, and has tallied four goal involvements in his first eight La Liga appearances, also adding a brace against Newcastle in the Champions League.

Speaking from the England camp ahead of a World Cup qualifier against Latvia, Rashford hinted that the revolving door of managers prevented him from playing at his best.

“For sure, consistency is a massive part of it,” Rashford told ITV in a since-deleted video on X.

“I feel like I have been in an inconsistent environment for a very long time, so it is even more difficult to be consistent.

“But I completely agree, I think consistency is what I need to bring into my game and I am looking to do that.

“I want to be at my best, not sometimes, but as often as possible.

“When people talk about consistency, in order to be consistent in anything, not just sport, you need consistent variables in your life and the way you train.

“We have just had so many changes so far in my career but I have to look forward and that it definitely one of the things I want to put right and improve on to be at my best more often.

“When I am at my best I really enjoy everything about the sport.”

Rashford had played under three managers within his first two-and-a-half years with United’s first team, making his debut under Louis van Gaal before also working with Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast in August, Rashford spoke in stronger terms, saying United’s constant manager turnover left the club drifting.

He said: “To start a transition, you have to make a plan and stick to it. It's not easy. I feel like we've had that many different managers and different ideas and different strategies in order to win, you end up in no man's land.”
