Enzo Maresca insists he has always been happy at Chelsea and says he is delighted for the supporters after reaching the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
The Blues beat Cardiff City 3-1 thanks to two goals from Alejandro Garnacho and another from Pedro Neto.
It followed comments made by Maresca last week after the win over Everton that he had experienced his “worst 48 hours” since joining the club because of a lack of support, but did not specify who from.
“I’m just happy, as you said,” the Italian said after his side’s latest win. “We’re going to play another semi-final in 18 months and I think it’s what the fans deserve.
“It was a great moment. I appreciate it. I’m always thankful.
“I said many times in many press conferences, the support has always been there, knowing that any support in the world, when you don’t win, they are not happy.
“So in some moments that we didn’t win games, they have been not happy, but it’s normal. Overall, the fans have always been there.”
“I always said that I’ve been happy since day one. So it’s not that tonight I’m not happy. I’m happy, I’m happy.”
Asked if he has spoken to the club’s sporting directors since his comments, Maresca replied: “No. As I said yesterday, the day after Everton, I started to prepare Cardiff, focus on Cardiff. Now, I just said on the bus I will watch Newcastle, and I didn’t speak with one of them. I didn’t speak. No, it’s okay.”
