Enzo Maresca says he has not spoken to Mykhailo Mudryk since confirmation that he has been charged by the FA for breaching anti-doping rules.

Mudryk has not played for Chelsea since the November 28 last year, after which he was provisionally suspended following what the club said was an “adverse finding in a routine urine test”.

Asked whether he had spoken to Mudryk since the charge, Maresca said: “I spoke with Mykhailo in Poland when we played the Conference League final. I haven’t spoken to him since then. There is nothing at the moment I can add because I don’t have more information about it.”

Maresca was tight-lipped when talking about the winger, but said he still trusts him. “He is a Chelsea player. I trust all Chelsea players.”

Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Noni Madueke could be available for transfer this summer but Maresca was adamant he is planning for next season with the Englishman: “Noni is our player. In this moment, you can read speculation (about many players). We consider Noni as our player for next season.”

The Italian did however reiterate that the club are in for a winger this summer: “We are going to decide to go for a winger not because of Misha. We want to go for a winger if he is back or not. In both cases, we have Madueke and (Pedro) Neto as proper wingers, then we try to adapt with Tyrique (George). It’s quite clear it is a position we need to improve.”

Ahead of Chelsea’s second Club World Cup game against Flamengo, Maresca also took the opportunity to praise midfielder Moises Caicedo.

“For me he is good everywhere, apart from maybe as a goalkeeper,” he joked.

“He can play everywhere. For us he has played three or four positions this season. We are very, very happy with Moises and him playing as a defensive midfielder because in this moment he is the best or one of the best in the world.”
