Benfica and Mário Branco have lodged a complaint with the FPF Disciplinary Council over referee Gustavo Correia and the match reports from the 2-2 draw with Famalicão in the 32nd round of Liga Portugal Betclic.

Record reports that both the club and their general director dispute the official account, which states Branco was prevented from approaching the referee by stadium staff and police.

Their defence argues tunnel CCTV, requested during the inquiry, contradicts that version of events. The case unfolds against a backdrop of previous disciplinary action.

Branco was recently given a further five-day suspension and a fine of 3,876 euros by the FPF’s disciplinary body, taking his total ban to 25 days after an initial preventive suspension of 20.

Correia’s display in that match again drew protests from Benfica, notably over a penalty not awarded when the score was 2-0. After full-time, president Rui Costa also voiced displeasure at several decisions, including the yellow card shown to Richard Ríos that ruled him out of the next game against Sporting de Braga, and the added time.
